White House Jobs Summit has come to symbolize the most recent example of a long-line of mismanagement over the last year of the current administration.  From failure to fully vet candidates for cabinet-level and other administration positions to the complete refusal to acknowledge ideas for success that were anything right of crazy-left.  The Jobs Summit, in itself failing to include vibrant job creators like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Businesses, revealed a string of ideas to aid recovery for the current economic malaise.  Interestingly, and of course not surprisingly, these ideas centered around sound, conservative fiscal principles like improving tax credits for businesses to stimulate hiring.  What is frustrating to most of America, however, is the fact that Republicans have been lobbying these ideas from the beginning of the debate this year, and which have been clearly laid out for the President since his election.

For instance, check out the similarities between the Republican House plan for economic recovery laid out in January by House Minority Leader John Boehner which centers around helping those most impacted by job losses (families and individuals) and those that hold the key to job creation (small businesses).  Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal laid it out in his case for health-care reform when he suggested “conservative principles work when applied to real-world problems.”   Most recently, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney unveiled a ten-point plan to solving our current economic woes.  Among these, are ideas designed to shake the shackles of a crippling government upon the private sector and to allow the spirit of enterprise to prosper once again.

It is not re-inventing the wheel.  Amazingly, this country, and we the people, are merely a by-product of the solutions that we most need now.  Our government is best when it governs the least – when it allows itself, its economies, and its people to be free and to tap into what makes it best – the people and the drive to solve and succeed.

If there is one thing to be pinned to the current administration, thus far, it would have to be . . . . numbers.  These numbers have been in the size and amount of levels never before seen.  They came in promises, in proposals, and in support.  Worse, though, they have been mismanaged to an extent that we could never even imagine.  We have seen billions and trillions spent towards violating free-market principles with buyouts and bailouts.  This was the beginning of the billions and trillions of tax dollars going towards ill-fated stimulus and omnibus packages.  Of course this started with the promise to “save or create” over 4 million jobs before 2010, a figurative statistic that still fails to hold any weight in the economic canon.  There was also the Pelosi threat that 500 million jobs would be lost each month without the proposed stimulus.  Perhaps this all started when the Obama campaign was in the middle of his “57 states” tour.

Recently, though, the White House has admitted error (seriously?) in their projections on the number of jobs saved (mostly because it is not possible to accurately assess) or created.  Such fabrication runs consistent with the recent finding of emails suggesting the hiding of data that counter the “science” behind global warming.  The administration now admits that it is difficult, if possible at all, to accurately track the jobs  connected to the stimulus plan, but considers that the positive impact of the stimulus package is “irrefutable.”  And why, exactly, are we to believe this?  Why are we to believe anything at all that comes from this administration?  And it is not about deceit, it is about having never, ever been in charge of anything before.  It is about sitting on the most powerful engine in the world and not understanding the facts behind how it runs and how best to drive it.

Perhaps,  U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., said it best when he stated “It’s only fitting that the White House would claim to create jobs in districts that don’t exist, since they funded the stimulus bill with money that doesn’t exist.”  I would argue it is because we elected a President with experience that he does not have.

Most glaring (and most overlooked in the mainstream media) is the hubris required by the administration to even think that it is possible for government of this proposed magnitude to deliver these claims.  Of course these numbers can not be achieved.  Then again, freedom has never been something you can achieve – it is something greater than that - that individuals must personally earn and deserve.  The best government can do is to provide tools for achievement and to get out of the way.  This is a serious misalignment of personal philosophy between the current administration and the majority of voting Americans.

This is the time of year when we reconnect with family, friends, good food and good memories…when we think about the events of the past year and dream about the future.

RamussenpollObamaapprovalDuring 2009, we have seen  incredible tax increases and 10% unemployment. We’ve seen an unfolding hostile takeover of a healthcare system that may result in socialized medicine. We’ve seen the face of our strong country cower internationally because of President Obama’s actions. It’s clear that he is failing and that Americans are experiencing “voters’ remorse” as 2009 ends.

It is during this time of year that we think about our past and our future and consider the direction of our country. And that makes me want to stand up and fight back. I sometimes feel that Republicans have been lax in our assertiveness, with our candidates and in our strategy, but all of that will change this time around.  I am prepared to come out swinging, and the first step is defining our party and our leadership at the 2010 Southern Republican Leadership Conference.

SRLC 2010 will be held in New Orleans in April. The host hotel, the Hilton Riverside New Orleans, is situated in Louisiana’s premiere location, nestled BourbonSton the bank of the Mississippi River between the posh Warehouse District and the infamous French Quarter. Aside from being the most significant GOP event prior to the 2012 Republican National Convention, SRLC 2010 is bringing the best of one of the country’s most exciting and interesting destinations together with the nation’s top conservative speakers. Come for the fun, come for the food, come for the speeches and straw poll…come for it all.

SRLC 2010 is the first chance we have as conservatives to preview the field for the 2012 presidential cycle. We are going to be the first voices heard as we decide who best represents our party for the challenges we face today. This is our time hear what our leaders have to say, and even more importantly, a time for us to talk back and tell them what we want as Republicans. It will be a great time for all of us!

Health Care Basketball

It appears that the game is officially on after watching even sensible senator after senator cave last week into the Democrats’ road to socialized medicine.  Most blatant was the $300 million bribe that successfully purchased the vote of Senator Mary Landrieu to clear the way towards debating the largest-potential- government-purchase of the free market in history.  We have now hit the point to where the senate floor will now actually debate the merits of socialism . . . .  that’s socialism – and with a $1 trillion price tag.  President Reagan reminded us that freedom will constantly be one generation away from extinction.  This final vote, should the bill matriculate through debate, will bring this generation one step closer to this.

The above video by the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest details just what this “gift” from the government will be like.  Not only is this approach by the government morally bankrupt, it is mathematically, economically, and financially impossible to carry out the long-term benefits it claims.   But what does that matter?  Over the course of the rest of the debate on healthcare reform, we are going to see unprecedented amounts of bribery – at least that in the public eye – by the Dems to ensure that enough votes are secured.  We will be watching . . . the bribe count must begin . . .  But what is a few extra million or billion here or there when Washington has rewritten the standard for first-year spending by an administration?  Thus, the SRLC 2010 will be reinforcing our base so that country does not lose its base.  For it is not about politics, it is about policy.  Policy that is based upon moral fabric and grounded in economic and fiscal theory.  But, mostly, when you’re right . . . you’re right.

Yes, it is game on . . . and it is time to stand up and fight before it is game over!
