2010 Offers Positive Outlook for GOP

Liberty Features Syndicate (William Warren, January 5, 2010)
With the historic election of Republican Scott Brown in Massachusetts last Tuesday, the American people look forward to the midterm elections in 2010.
With Americans wary of an unpopular Congress, an unfavorable president and destructive policies of both, the GOP is poised to make a comeback of extraordinary lengths, focused specifically on returning the country back to its roots of small government and individual freedom.
In an article in the Belmont Citizen-Herald of Belmont, Mass., Republican gubernatorial candidate Charles Baker explained that he and other candidates feel empowered by Brown’s win and that the victory changes the landscape of American politics.
“And I think we’re going to see a bunch of really good, regular local people jump into a bunch of these rep and Senate and congressional races. And they’ll be real candidates, because they’re going to be talking the same stuff voters wanted people to be talking about in this race, which is: what are you going to do about getting people back to work, and will you please stop spending my money like it’s my money, instead of like it’s your money,” Baker explained.
This sense is not limited to partisan stumping on the Right. Julian E. Zelizer, a professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University, echoed these sentiments in a special to CNN.
“This could very well just be a taste of things to come,” Zelizer said. “Most likely, the midterm elections won’t be good for the Democrats.”
Early polling indicates that the forecasts of both Zelizer and Baker could come true. According to Rasmussen’s Generic Congressional Ballot, the average American would vote for a Republican over a Democrat in any house race, 45 percent to 37 percent. Rasmussen reports that “Republicans have been ahead by nine points—their largest lead in several years—while support for Democrats has fallen to its lowest level in years.”

Yes He Did!
What a difference a year can make! Just 365 days ago, Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. Since then, the President, along with liberal Democrats in Washington, have been pushing their radical agenda for higher taxes, more federal spending, stimulus packages and a healthcare bill that would bring the American economy to its knees.
Running on the platform of Hope and Change, President Obama promised that his vision for the country would turn our economy around, provide more jobs, and bring America back from the brink of financial ruin. However, after he had just a few short weeks in office, Americans woke up to realize that nothing had changed. The President’s Hope and Change was a lie! With the President backing a healthcare reform bill that would make it illegal to not have coverage and Democrats having a Super Majority, all hope seemed lost of ever defeating such a dangerous bill. Americans watched as the Democrats had their way with this great country.
However, with a strong grassroots campaign that grabbed opportunity by the horns, Scott Brown and conservatives from around the country worked together to ensure a conservative victory much like the ones in New Jersey and Virginia. For the first time in 40-plus years, a Republican was elected to represent the state of Massachusetts, defeating Democrat Martha Coackley with 52% of the vote. While the mainstream media will characterize this as a fluke, many are seeing a new light beginning to shine. With the 2010 elections just around the corner, now more than ever conservatives need to make their voices heard.
The conservative movement is alive and well in this country. Democrats are shaking in their boots.
Christie…McDonnell…Brown…what’s next?

The New Media Challenge, a friendly competition between the 14 southern state party organizations, began a few weeks ago. We’ve already seen some great viral videos out of several states, but this match also includes email campaigns, websites, social media and more.
These inclusive campaigns will be judged by a panel of industry experts in March 2010. SRLC 2010 is pleased to announce today that this panel will include: Saul Anuzis, Chairman of the RNC Committee on Technology; Matt Scofield, Director of Online Communications for Newt Gingrich, and Todd Herman, RNC New Media Director.
Saul Anuzis, aside from his chairmanship of the RNC Committee on Technology, also currently serves as the National Chairman for the “Save American Jobs Project.” He is a former Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, and he was a candidate for RNC Chairman in 2008. Saul and his business partner own Quick Connect USA, a telecommunications firm providing local, long distance, VOIP, Internet, and data services to residential and small businesses throughout Michigan.
Matt Scofield is a graduate of the University of Arizona’s top-ranked Information Systems program. He has worked with the web in various fields since 1996. He is currently the Director of Online Communications for New Gingrich where he is putting his efforts toward his greatest passion: the nexus of politics and education in the online world. His previous projects include mobile ecommerce sites at Nokia, developing e-learning courses for Gatlin education, and assessing government agency websites on an international scale at CyPRG.
Todd Herman currently manages all aspects of the Party’s digital strategies in his role as RNC New Media Director. Prior to joining the RNC, Herman served as Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of SpinSpotter (an online media bias software start-up), General Manager of Media Strategy and Monetization for MSN, and held several senior positions with MSNBC.com – amongst other roles. He is one of the first 25 initial inductees in the “Streaming Media Hall,” and was named “the media guy at Microsoft” by AdAge Magazine.

Still Looking for Ideas?
White House Jobs Summit has come to symbolize the most recent example of a long-line of mismanagement over the last year of the current administration. From failure to fully vet candidates for cabinet-level and other administration positions to the complete refusal to acknowledge ideas for success that were anything right of crazy-left. The Jobs Summit, in itself failing to include vibrant job creators like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Businesses, revealed a string of ideas to aid recovery for the current economic malaise. Interestingly, and of course not surprisingly, these ideas centered around sound, conservative fiscal principles like improving tax credits for businesses to stimulate hiring. What is frustrating to most of America, however, is the fact that Republicans have been lobbying these ideas from the beginning of the debate this year, and which have been clearly laid out for the President since his election.
For instance, check out the similarities between the Republican House plan for economic recovery laid out in January by House Minority Leader John Boehner which centers around helping those most impacted by job losses (families and individuals) and those that hold the key to job creation (small businesses). Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal laid it out in his case for health-care reform when he suggested “conservative principles work when applied to real-world problems.” Most recently, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney unveiled a ten-point plan to solving our current economic woes. Among these, are ideas designed to shake the shackles of a crippling government upon the private sector and to allow the spirit of enterprise to prosper once again.
It is not re-inventing the wheel. Amazingly, this country, and we the people, are merely a by-product of the solutions that we most need now. Our government is best when it governs the least – when it allows itself, its economies, and its people to be free and to tap into what makes it best – the people and the drive to solve and succeed.
Texas On The Rise
Everything is bigger FROM Texas…well, at least that’s true about their SRLC delegation this month. Texas successfully climbed from the fifth largest delegation to the third this week-overtaking Tennessee and Florida.
In fact, delegations from ALL fourteen southern states have been rapidly growing this month. Perhaps in response to the continued inadequacies from the current administration and power in Washington…
• ASTOUNDINGLY, even higher unemployment, to be rectified by what?…a job summit?
• Indecisive, misleading, wrong…only a few adjectives I have for Obama’s speech on Tuesday night
• And prepare yourselves folks…hope you don’t like capitalism…they are going to tax you even more to participate in the market…just what we can afford.
With this recklessness, it’s no surprise that Republicans and Conservatives from all around the country are saying enough is enough. Let’s gather next April, get our strategery in order, and get us back on track next year. The road to November starts in New Orleans.
And They Are Off!
They are out of the blocks, past the starting gate, and on their way! The fourteen southern state GOP organizations are competing with fervor to win the SRLC New Media Challenge (NMC).
The 2010 NMC promises to highlight the best of the new technology used to promote our candidates, activate our roots, and integrate the party from top to bottom. Some frontrunners are emerging – but I wouldn’t wager any bets yet, there’s a lot of time left in this race!
Some of our favorites so far:
This video the Alabama GOP put out last month:
And this video from the Republican Party of Texas:
And kudos to the Republican Party of Virginia. They utilized videos to help their winning ticket reach the finish line last month. They had many insightful, hard-hitting, and sometimes hilarious videos – this was one of our favorites.
One last update and props, Florida is doing a great job sending out emails and getting a strong delegation to represent the Sunshine State next April in New Orleans. They are currently ranked third in delegates, but with continued efforts, look out Mississippi and Louisiana!
If there is one thing to be pinned to the current administration, thus far, it would have to be . . . . numbers. These numbers have been in the size and amount of levels never before seen. They came in promises, in proposals, and in support. Worse, though, they have been mismanaged to an extent that we could never even imagine. We have seen billions and trillions spent towards violating free-market principles with buyouts and bailouts. This was the beginning of the billions and trillions of tax dollars going towards ill-fated stimulus and omnibus packages. Of course this started with the promise to “save or create” over 4 million jobs before 2010, a figurative statistic that still fails to hold any weight in the economic canon. There was also the Pelosi threat that 500 million jobs would be lost each month without the proposed stimulus. Perhaps this all started when the Obama campaign was in the middle of his “57 states” tour.

Recently, though, the White House has admitted error (seriously?) in their projections on the number of jobs saved (mostly because it is not possible to accurately assess) or created. Such fabrication runs consistent with the recent finding of emails suggesting the hiding of data that counter the “science” behind global warming. The administration now admits that it is difficult, if possible at all, to accurately track the jobs connected to the stimulus plan, but considers that the positive impact of the stimulus package is “irrefutable.” And why, exactly, are we to believe this? Why are we to believe anything at all that comes from this administration? And it is not about deceit, it is about having never, ever been in charge of anything before. It is about sitting on the most powerful engine in the world and not understanding the facts behind how it runs and how best to drive it.

Perhaps, U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., said it best when he stated “It’s only fitting that the White House would claim to create jobs in districts that don’t exist, since they funded the stimulus bill with money that doesn’t exist.” I would argue it is because we elected a President with experience that he does not have.
Most glaring (and most overlooked in the mainstream media) is the hubris required by the administration to even think that it is possible for government of this proposed magnitude to deliver these claims. Of course these numbers can not be achieved. Then again, freedom has never been something you can achieve – it is something greater than that - that individuals must personally earn and deserve. The best government can do is to provide tools for achievement and to get out of the way. This is a serious misalignment of personal philosophy between the current administration and the majority of voting Americans.
